Alex Walsh Disqualified from 200-Meter Individual Medley Final

Walsh had finished third with a time of 2:07.06 and was leading halfway through the race. During Friday's semifinals, she had the fastest time among all participants with 2:07.45.
Walsh's teammate, Kate Douglass, expressed her sadness to reporters in France, saying, "I was just really heartbroken for her. I feel like she deserved to win that medal, and she deserved to be on the podium with me. It’s always fun to swim that race together and be on the podium together, so I was really upset for her."
Walsh had won a silver medal in this event at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. During her four years at Virginia, she earned 19 NCAA titles and was named an All-American 27 times, all of which ended with NCAA team championships.

She will compete in the 50-meter freestyle final on Sunday, entering the race with the second-fastest qualifying time.
